Best Online Learning Resources for Kids

Published on 6th April 2020 by Tessa Robinson

With schools now closed for the majority of children, we have written this article ‘Best Online Learning Resources for Kids – Homeschooling Support’. We have created a list of Online Learning for Kids to help children learn from home. There are a variety of topics such as maths, English and learning languages, all covering many aspects of the school curriculum.

How Can I Help My Child Learn From Home with online learning resources?

We hope this list will help you with your homeschooling, most of the amazing companies included are offering free trials to help parents and children during this awful time.

Tassomai – Online Learning for Kids

Tassomai is an award-winning adaptive Online Learning Resources program for children from 7-17 years old, accessed via their mobile app or via the Tassomai website.

Tassomai mainly uses multiple choice quizzes to test and teach, embedding knowledge and boosting confidence. It’s adaptive because the program learns what your child does and doesn’t know and adapts the quizzes accordingly, targeting weaknesses and reinforcing strengths.

Tassomai is best known for GCSE science, but they also have courses in maths, English, French and Latin. The program is often used to help children prepare for the 11+ and 13+ exams.

You sign up online and get instant access, there’s no long term contract, you just pay a monthly subscription fee and can cancel at any time. Tassomai also recently introduced a free 7-day trial.

To help families affected by school closures, Tassomai significantly reduced the price of their courses for younger learners during the first lockdown. The price of courses for 7 to 9 and 10 to 11 year olds is now £8.99 per month and includes access to all relevant subjects for this age group..

Courses for children of secondary school age are also available to buy online for private subscribers, although some children may already have access through their school as over 500 secondary schools now use the program!

If you sign up to Tassomai you’ll have access to a dashboard showing you your child’s strengths and weaknesses, and you’ll get a weekly email telling you the headlines on their learning. They also have a great new feature called the Tree that lets you watch your child’s knowledge grow.

Tassomai have rave reviews from lots of parents and teachers, they also won the 2019 BETT Award (the Oscars of the Education Technology) for the Best Education Support Resource for Parents or Home Learning.

The Maths Mum® – Online Learning for Kids

This is a fabulous online resource – the Maths Mum® is Karen McGuigan.  I am a friendly, straight forward mum with the goal to bring ‘LOVE to MATHS’. It is a tough challenge in today’s market as maths has got a bit of a bad reputation amongst our generation.

The Maths Mum® is here to support parents / carers with home schooling their children by providing insight and guidance on how maths is taught today so that they can help their children positively and without confusing them. I focus on maths in the EYFS to the end of primary school. During lockdown 1.0, I created a set of 18 Topic Workbooks that cover the entire primary curriculum – each starting at reception / year 1 and working through the topic with explanations and questions to year 6.  I also published a set of End of Year Assessments – which allows you as parents / carers to identify which areas of the curriculum your child has secured and which they need help with. I am also available to help via Zoom and will be doing regular Maths Clinics.

You will find the workbooks, assessment, lots of FREE resources and videos via the “Helping your child with maths’ directory on the website:  www.themathsmum.co.uk/helping-your-child-with-maths

And for parents / carers of children with additional needs, I have developed the “Maths For Life” programme – a differentiated approach to the maths curriculum that lays down solid foundations, is framed in practical understanding, and delivers the essential maths needed for life.  Find out more at the on the website.

Let’s continue to try and LOVE MATHS together in 2021!!!
