Tessa Day – Children’s Activity Provider, Founder and Director

things to do with kids

Hello, my name is Tessa Day. I graduated from Kent Stage Academy of Performing Arts in 2013 where I studied Musical Theatre for two years. Having gained a lot of experience appearing in short films, feature films, commercials, pantomimes, and Theatre in Education tours I decided to create “Tessa’s Jazz Hands”. As I wanted to start up a project that I felt passionate about. At the time I found it really difficult to advertise my kids club to the local community. All my pupils were coming through word of mouth. I didn’t have the money to spend on advertising in local magazines which is where my idea for Club Hub came about. What if there was a directory where parents could input their location, child’s age, and interest, and a list of results for children’s activities and things to do with kids would come up in mile order?

In 2016 I decided to enter Ideas Britain’s #InSport Competition (a dragon’s den style app) where I took second place. I was able to develop my idea with their mentors and start to create a website and social media pages which is when Dorset Tech got in touch. They offered to create my website and app for an amazing price. In August 2016 Club Hub the UK went live on the App Store, Google Play, and on the Web.

It now receives over 300,000 views every month and has thousands of Kids Clubs, baby classes, and Children’s Activities registered offering toddler activities, indoor activities for kids, gymnastics classes, things to do with kids, indoor play areas, and kids activity boxes available to order online. So if you’re searching for “kids activities near me or baby classes” then our resources can help.

I have been asked to judge awards, speak at events and mentor business owners. I inspire and influence the providers in this industry by providing a hub where they connect and grow. In 2017 I won the #SBS award with Theo Paphitis, having Theo’s and the #SBS community’s support has been incredible. We are all like minded individuals who can share our successes and learnings with each other as a friendly club.

In the last few years I have been a finalist for the Best Business Women awards, Family Networks Awards and in 2022 I won Business of the Year with the Business Success Awards. The Business Success team independently judged over 600 entries and shortlisted the finalists, and a team of expert judges selected the winners for each award. The winners were announced at the Recognition Awards ceremony on Saturday 18th June, at the Eastside Rooms, Birmingham.

I am passionate about the children’s activities sector and I enjoy being a spokesperson for it. I apply for as many awards as I can each year, for recognition and awareness, which benefits the membership community I support.

In January 2023 I was named as one of the UK’s most inspirational and dynamic female entrepreneur by the f:Entrepreneur ‘#ialso100’ campaign. The f:Entrepreneur campaign was launched in 2017 to raise greater awareness of the impact of incredible female business owners across the country, and help provide inspiration and role models to the wider small business community. Delivered by Small Business Britain – the leading champion of small businesses in the UK –  the campaign offers a host of events, training, and networking opportunities to boost skills, capability, and confidence.

They invited me to celebrate International Women’s Day at the House of Lords. I enjoyed afternoon tea and networking in Westminster, meeting other founders from across the country. As well as hearing from special guest speakers Seema Malhotra MP, Shadow Minister for Small Business and Consumers, and entrepreneur Lucy Griffiths, a business coach and former TV reporter covering the war in Ukraine, who paid tribute to the power of female entrepreneurship.

Emma Hewitt - Awards, Event and Marketing Manager

I have been working for Club Hub as a freelance marketing and event manager since September 2019. I manage the annual awards and event and create social media content and graphics

I first discovered Club Hub when I started my own franchise business in 2016. I love working in this sector, supporting so many inspiring activity providers and helping parents to find classes and clubs for their kids.

My working background has been mainly in universities, I have had a range of roles, but spent most of my career in international student recruitment. I managed marketing campaigns, organised recruitment fairs and managed a number of scholarship schemes.

I have a master’s degree in Education and a professional diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Previous to working in higher education, I worked in school libraries and many moons ago I ran a small dance school. So, my role at Club Hub sort of brings it all together!
