“Hello, my name is Tessa Day. I graduated from Kent Stage Academy of Performing Arts in 2013 where I studied Musical Theatre for two years. Having gained a lot of experience appearing in short films, feature films, commercials, pantomimes, and Theatre in Education tours, I decided to create “Tessa’s Jazz Hands”. At the age of 21 I wanted to start up a project that I felt passionate about. At the time I found it really difficult to advertise my kids club to the local community. I didn’t have the money to spend on advertising in local magazines which is where my idea for Club Hub came about.What if there was a directory where parents could input their location, child’s age, and interest, and a list of results for children’s activities would come up in geographical order?
After identifying an obstacle to promoting my own business and a gap in the marketing offering for the sector as a whole. I started developing the Club Hub app. In 2016 I decided to enter Ideas Britain’s #InSport Competition (a dragon’s den style app) where I took second place. I was able to develop my idea with their mentors and start to create a website and social media pages to coincide with the Club Hub App which is when Dorset Tech got in touch. They offered to create my Club Hub app and website for an amazing price. In early August 2016 the Club Hub App and website went live”.

Club Hub is the largest kids activities directory in the UK. It provides kids activity providers with an essential platform to promote their businesses to parents and carers. Parents can locate kids clubs and activities for newborns to 18 years, anywhere in the UK, on our Club Hub app or website. The directory is free for parents and carers to access and search.
Children’s activity providers can subscribe as members and list their activities, with affordable, additional promotion options available. It is completely free for charity and non profit businesses to use.
Club Hub collaborates with a range of family/child-related businesses to promote relevant products, attractions and advice through our blog posts.
We are supported by a team of Club Hub brand reps, who provide a review service for small businesses and Club Hub members and promote them through social media.
We run an annual awards programme and professional development event in Birmingham featuring speakers, workshops and networking. Our awards are the only national awards for the sector that are decided by a judging panel alone, with no public voting. This provides a genuine opportunity for any size or type of kids activity business to gain recognition and celebrate their business successes.
The children’s activities sector is relatively ‘new’ in terms of formally being recognised.
Activity providers date back 50+ years, but in reality the sector has only really boomed since the 1990s. Today, while no official figures exist, it’s estimated that there are over 50,000 children’s activity providers in the UK. Operating a variety of different types of business and service offerings. Providers are mostly made up of independent operators, franchised or licensed teacher networks and not for profits.
By providing more comprehensive support to the sector, we can grow these businesses to accommodate millions of parents and children across the country. Encouraging children to be more confident in themselves, addressing the mental health issues there are for young people today. Allowing them to become more involved in their local communities rather than staying at home on their computer games. The clubs are also an important lifeline for new parents. Providing social interaction and support and encouraging bonding through play with their baby and small child.
