Flute Choir Summer Camp

Activity Description

We are thrilled to announced that this summer the Four Oaks Flute Choir will be running its first Summer Camp for ages 7-15! There will be two programmes running concurrently – a fun and engaging starter course designed for beginners with no prior experience necessary, and a programme of focused ensemble rehearsals and technical workshops for those more experienced players. You can even hire a flute for your child if needed.

The course will be split into workshops and visits from local musicians and music specialists, designed to inspire young flautists (and flautists to be) whilst developing their flute playing technique.

The week will culminate in a performance for family and friends.

We are fortunate that our members include flute teachers, ensemble leaders, experienced professional musicians and alumni of the Birmingham Conservatoire and we all feel passionately about encouraging more young people to learn the flute.  FOFC staff are DBS checked, first-aid trained and hold appropriate insurance.

BEGINNERS PROGRAMME:  Designed to accommodate the absolute beginner, to the flutist with some experience, our programme will provide students with the correct and solid foundation to becoming a great flute player, all in a fun group setting. We can offer flute hire for the week if necessary. Beginners will learn the fundamentals of flute playing including embouchure and making a good tone, articulating notes and understanding rhythm, reading and playing their first notes. As well as workshops in flute technique, we will be learning to play as an ensemble with each part being tailored to the individual student’s ability and experience, providing everyone with music that they can enjoy playing and also something to stretch themselves with!

FLUTE PLAYERS WITH SOME EXPERIENCE:  Experienced players will have the opportunity to play as a flute choir, with each student being assigned parts tailored to their experience and ability and with opportunities to stretch themselves. They will experience playing a wide variety of musical genres including classical, folk, blues and modern pop covers. As well as ensemble rehearsals, our experienced players will enjoy workshops to develop advanced technique in tone, articulation and interpretation. All students will have the opportunity to perform a solo as well as in an ensemble.
