Activity Description

Social Understanding and Social Skills Group.

 Children and young people explore:
Starting conversations and joining in.
Understanding what someone is trying to communicate.
Noticing facial expressions, body language and tone of voice.
Knowing when to speak, listen and give others time.
Expressing their thoughts, feelings and ideas.
Letting others know when they don’t understand or need more time.
Managing misunderstandings and thinking about what they could do next.

 The aim: To help children and young people better understand communication, express themselves and make sense of what others are communicating, so they can feel more confident in everyday social situations.

All social mentors working directly with children hold enhanced DBS checks and safeguarding training.
