For May half term we have a huge range of activities for all ages.
ARC Open Day – On Tuesday 30th May we are running an open day for the ARC for visitors to come into the store to see the archaeological collections we have inside. We will be showing some highlights of the objects we store from all periods of history, and our visitors will have opportunities to handle real archaeological objects!
Forest School – 18 months – 5 years. Learn how to build a Teddy Bear Shelter, make a mess in the muddy kitchen, connect with a sensory nature activity and much more. 6– 11 years – A wide range of activities to keep them entertained. Can they build a shelter that will stand up to testing? Learn how to cook on an open fire and get involved in all the games.
Animation Workshop – Come along to the Let’s Animate mobile studio and have a go at creating your very own Stop Frame Animated Movie. Filmmakers will begin by building a Rabbit from plasticine, then in small groups devise a short story scenario bringing ideas to life using stop frame animation. Created models can be taken home. After the session all films are edited by Let’s Animate and sent back to filmmakers to keep and share with friends and family, the final films will also be uploaded to Let’s Animates YouTube channel.
Nature Workshop – By using our gentle hands on a ‘bug hunt’ with snails/slugs (finding breathing holes), identifying pregnant woodlice, locating beetle larvae, looking at grasshopper’s ‘catapult’ legs and such. Moving on from invertebrates we will be able to feel real bones and look at jumping frogs and investigate/record how mice evade predators. After the half-an-hour workshop guests will be given a nature sheet which they can use to explore the 85 acre estate discovering the vast nature that we have located around.
Encanto Sing Along – Four of you favourite friends will be joining us at the Estate for a sing along session to all of the tunes from the hit movie Encanto!

Come and join the fun at Markshall this May half term. Located just off the A120 between Braintree and Coggeshall, Markshall covers 200 acres of unique landscape set in the heart of Essex countryside. And for this half term, Markshall is also home to Percy’s Adventures.
Families can pick up their adventure backpack and head out into the world of trees to discover wildlife, complete the activities and create amazing family memories. As the country gets set to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourne is set to join in the celebrations with our ‘Zoobilation for the Coronation’!
Throughout the weekend of celebrations, our Hertfordshire zoo, will be honouring the King who has a history of environmentalism and conservation. We are planning a unique trail that celebrates ‘Royal’ species from across the globe, encouraging all ages to participate in a fun and educational way to share in the wonder of wildlife.
From Friday the 5th until Monday the 8th of May, we will be decorating the zoo with bunting and providing celebratory crowns for children to wear. We will also be celebrating the King’s wishes with The Big Help Out which is part of the official coronation celebrations, by hosting our own volunteer station. Members of the public will have the opportunity to join Paradise Wildlife Parks volunteer programmes, with a variety of roles available from gardening, retail, catering and zookeeping.
This ‘Zoobilation for the Coronation’ will be free as part of general admission ticket entrance to the zoo, so that everyone has the chance to enjoy the jubilation of celebrations!
