Activity Description

Whizz-Kidz is the UK’s leading charity for young wheelchair users
Our vision is a society in which every young wheelchair user is mobile, enabled and included.

We run a whole range of other services for young wheelchair users, completely free of charge.

Wheelchair Skills Training:
Ages 2-25, National
Supports young people to use their wheelchair safely and confidently. This can be delivered in a school/college setting or in the community. We also deliver Train-the-Trainer Wheelchair Skills so that staff from other organisations (or parents) can confidently deliver training to wheelchair users. We believe that all wheelchair-users should be provided training when they receive a piece of equipment. This is not currently the case with NHS funded mobility equipment and our skills training seeks to address that.

Programmes:
Ages 8-25, Maidstone, Redhill, London
Our activity programmes support young wheelchair users to be independent, improve health and wellbeing, reducing isolation, build confidence and grow their social networks. Through fun club sessions and family days, young people get a chance to take part in activities and meet new people. We also run regular virtual club sessions on Zoom.

Employability Support:
Ages 14-25, National
Our Whizz-Kidz Employability offering aims to equip young wheelchair users with the skills to gain meaningful training opportunities and employment. Through face-to-face or online sessions, participants gain an understanding of topics such as time-management, coping with barriers, job-searching, application and CV-writing, and interview skills.
Additionally, young wheelchair users can access travel-training, work experience placements (virtual or face-to-face) and 1:1 coaching support.

School Hubs:
We work with schools to tailor our Hub support to the needs of the young person, delivering a block of sessions on a range of employability themes to ensure that students leave school equipped to advocate for themselves in the world of work, as well as with the skills to apply for the roles they want.

Employability Skills Days:
We also work with our corporate partners to offer Employability Skills Days, which are led by companies who select a number of topics to focus on and share their expertise. These are a great chance to interact with professionals and to develop your skills ready for work.
