Land Art is a fun activity to do in nature, it is spontaneous, FREE and is a perfect learning and development opportunity for early years too!

Land Art involves creating art on the Earth. Use sticks, stones, leaves, mud and more to create fabulous pictures with your little ones, in your own garden or when out and about. Autumn is a great time to do this thanks to the abundance of natural items falling to the ground.

Why not try creating a picture of your favourite animal (such as our Hedgehog here) from sticks and leaves?

Create Sunset Trees with Rainbow Tree Box

Explore paints…

Paint a rainbow tree trunk and branches using sunset colours. You will only need blue, red, yellow and white paints to mix and make all of the colours that you will see in sunset skies. Use some scrap card from your recycling to practice mixing different colours and shades together with your paints. Empty yogurt pots make good little paint pots for your new colours. Mix white into any of your colours to create pale pastel shades, including peach, pink and lilac.

Discover shapes…

Go for a walk in the countryside and look at all of the beautiful Autumnal trees together. Talk about the shapes, sizes and textures that you can see.  You could take some photos and look at them later when you decided to draw and paint your tree. You can use our free tree outline to inspire you, or you can print it out and paint it. Use small sponges to dab the paint colours onto the inside of your forearm, hand and fingers. Place your arm and hand onto a piece of paper or card to create a print that resembles a tree trunk and its branches. Take care not to apply too much paint to avoid slipping. A nice thin layer will create a crisp clear print.

Create Autumn leaves…

Whilst out on your walk, collect some fallen Autumn leaves. Take them home, gently wash and dry them. You can use these leaves to paint and print onto your tree by pressing them down onto your paper around the tree branches. You can also use them to add another dimension to your Sunset Tree by sticking them onto the picture using some glue. Fingertips dipped into paints and dabbed onto the paper also make beautiful leaves.

Children from Reception to Year 8* are welcome to join our week-long camps and enjoy a wide variety of sports, outdoor activities, and games in an active, fun environment. All who take part in our exhilarating and challenging adventure activities have a great time, and keep coming back for more!

Children participate in a variety of activities, from High Ropes and climbing to Quad Biking and archery, while being looked after by our highly motivated and experienced team. The camps run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with FREE early drop-off from 8:30 a.m. We offer a late pickup service until 6.00 p.m. (Please note that this is chargeable upon booking).

Get in the seasonal spirit by making a fun and colourful pumpkin sculpture inspired by Yayoi Kusama – the Conservatoire

Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist, now 91 years old, who works in sculpture and installation, painting, performance and other arts, and who loves polka dots!

First let’s start by making the dough:

You could make this out of clay or salt dough.

You will need: 

• 1 cup salt
• 2 cups flour
• 1 tablespoon cooking oil
• 1 cup water
• Bowl
• Spoons
• Powder paint or vegetable dye or food colouring (or paint it afterwards)

Making your Pumpkin – Autumn Activities for Kids

1. Mix powder paint or vegetable dye or food colouring with the flour and salt.
2. Add oil and water.
3. Knead dough. It will last a few days or so if kept in a fridge and should have a consistency similar to shop bought dough.
4. Split your dough or clay in half. Make one half into a sphere by rolling it gently round and round in your hands. Use the rest of the clay or dough to make about 5 sausages.
5. Place the end one of one of the sausages on the sphere and wrap it around to the opposite side. These will make the segments of the pumpkin. Use your fingers to smooth the sides of the sausage on to the ball so they join properly and prevent it falling off when dry.
6. Add as many of these as you want until you are pleased with your pumpkin shape. Don’t forget to add the stalk!
7. Paint it in ready mix paint or acrylics.
8. Use a cotton bud or the base of a pencil to add dots.  Feel free to vary the colour and size,
9. You could look at some of Kusama’s work online and create an ‘infinity space’ in which the pumpkin can be placed, using silver foil or any reflective surface.
