How can yoga support your families physical and mental wellbeing? Did you know that Mental Health Awareness Week is taking place from 15th to 21st May? The theme for 2023 is anxiety.
Mental Health Awareness Week is all about taking care of our minds and bodies, and yoga is a fantastic way for families to do just that. So here at Mitchy Titch HQ we thought it was a great time to share some of the many ways that yoga can help in managing you and your family’s wellbeing.
Yoga is a great way to help calm the mind, reduce muscle tension and slow down the breath, all of which can help anxiety symptoms. Mindfulness practise of yoga is also a great way to become more aware of thoughts and emotions, helping with self-awareness and a greater ability to manage everyday challenges.
Yoga goes far beyond exercise and stretching- it builds confidence, self-esteem and positive interactions.
Through relaxing visualisations, we can help children to use their imagination and breathing techniques to build coping strategies. By teaching children to be mindful of how they feel, they can use all these techniques to help them cope with the everyday stresses that are presented to them.
At Mitchy Titch we bring yoga and mindfulness together to enhance both physical and mental wellbeing. Our sessions are geared towards younger children having fun whilst exploring their physical and mental health and the older children working on understanding their own physical and mental health.
Our classes go beyond yoga stetches. We pay particular attention to language, listening & communication; learning through play; physical, social and emotional development as well as the many benefits of yoga such as improving muscle tone, co-ordination, confidence, self-esteem, balance, flexibility, creativity, breathing, relaxation and mindfulness techniques.
Our sessions run for baby, toddler and pre-school but we also run sessions in nurseries and primary schools. Looking after the whole family unit is important to use in helping to build that sound structure in a little one’s life. Whether it be a shoulder to cry on or suggestions for engaging little ones in sessions, being calm, relaxed and knowledgeable in your field is a great comfort to struggling parents.
Our baby yoga classes begin with a gentle, clothed massage for baby which is especially good for babies that have had a traumatic birth or mothers that have undergone a C-section or have postnatal depression. With positive touch babies develop both physically and emotionally and provide quality bonding time.
Mobile Babies from crawling to around 2 to 2.5 yrs approximately are taught at a faster pace to keep your child stimulated. This class is as much about the parents and carers having fun as it is for the child and with songs & rhymes our toddler yoga classes are very educational.
Our classes also focus on sharing, turn taking and patience with a big focus on speech, language and development but delivered in such a fun way that it makes learning easy. Everyone benefits from our breathing and relaxation techniques for enhanced quiet time with lots of snuggles and cuddles.
All our classes help parents and carers to form friendships and relationships with other people going through the similar experiences to them. Building bonds for our children and ourselves is a great way to have support when we need it most.
We are passionate about incorporating yoga into the school curriculum to help provide students with a wealth of physical, emotional and mental health benefits and host sessions in several schools, nurseries and youth groups.
By incorporating yoga into the school day, students can stay active and healthy. Yoga is a low-impact form of exercise and is a great way to teach children about proper body alignment and how to take care of their physical health.
Yoga is also an incredible way to train our brains to focus and tune out distractions, which is great to help with managing emotions, focusing on academic work and helping to improve classroom behaviour.
All our classes follow the Early Years Foundation Stages and SEN Guidelines as set out by the government in order to aid development and learning and promote a physically active lifestyle for your growing child. KS1 & KS2 Curriculum are featured within our lesson plans and we aim to work closely with our schools in creating the perfect sessions for the children
We want to equip families, nurseries and schools to help children with their own toolset to cope with their emotions.
I took my passion for yoga and created an exciting bestselling children’s book- ‘Mitchy Titch- All Around the World’, featuring beautiful illustrations by Helen Robinson MA as a way to share the fun and benefits of yoga at home.
The story takes you on an adventure as Mitchy and his friends head off on a trip ‘All Around the World’ having lots of fun practicing yoga poses to help build confidence and inner strength.
We also designed Mitchy Titch Yoga Cards – 52 Fun Yoga Activity Cards where you can come along with Mitchy Titch and learn his fun poses, with benefits, cautions, hints & tips and breathing & relaxation suggestions! All in a handy little drawstring bag to take with you wherever you go!
I have loved yoga all my life and it has helped me through many a stressful day. I was so passionate about it I turned it into my job, and I could see the HUGE benefits running my own business allowed me to have in order to spend more time with my family and doing things I loved.
