As the nights draw in and half-term looms, we’re busy planning some wonderful hands-on activities for October half-term. This year will be putting on a packed schedule of activity for longer than a week with workshops and events running from Thursday 22 October to Sunday 1 November.
Every day you can join in with:
– Storytelling from The Twits and Revolting Rhymes
– A Triumphant Tricks Trail around the galleries
– Halloween Bingo in the galleries
– Drop-in crafts
All included with Museum admission!
As well as this, we’ve also got a host of special workshops:
Head out of the Museum on our Terrific Twits Trek. Professional actor Michael Parkhouse will show you the local sights that inspired the stories, with some readings from the books featuring some fantastic – if slightly naughty – TRICKS.
Find out about newts in water jugs, pheasants in prams and dead mice in sweet jars. Don’t try any of this at home, though — you have been warned!
Monday 26 October at 11.45am and 2.15pm
£5 per person in addition to Museum entry, under 18 need to be accompanied by a paying adult.
If foulsome food is more your thing, be inspired by the tricks that the Twits played on each other then create your own clay dinner plate in our Disgusterous Clay Dinners workshop. Will you hide birds in the pie or worms in the spaghetti?
Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 October, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, and 3pm
Monday 26 to Friday 30 October, 10.30, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, and 3.30pm
£5 per maker, in addition to Museum entry
Take a peek behind the scenes with our Head of Collections, Will. Families with children aged 8 and up will get a rare, up-close look at real archive treasures and uncover scrumdiddlyumptious secrets from Matilda, The BFG, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This 30 minute experience in the Museum’s Reading Room is an exciting dive into Dahl’s world!
On Tuesday 27 October at 11am, 12pm and 2pm.
£5 adults and children in addition to Museum entry. Children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
