Ready Steady Riders – Balance Bike Track Sessions

Activity Description

Our balance bike sessions at Birmingham BMX track Perry Barr, are a toddler group with a difference. We are very fortunate to have access to the first and only custom built balance bike pump track in the UK with a drop gate, and the last 2 straights of a full size national standard pro BMX track.
This session is split into 2 groups. Group 1 ride the pump track. Group 1 riders are assessed weekly and promoted to group 2 when appropriate. Group 2 ride the main track and are required to wear full face helmets and pads.

Through free play, group 1 children learn the basic skills required to ride a bike, the confidence to ride in a group, sportsmanship and track etiquette.
Group 2 learn through a mixture of free play and structured activities, On the main track riders tackle bigger obstacles and learn more advanced skills in preparation for their transition to pedals.
Track sessions encourage a “can do” attitude, and support all key areas of early child development.

This session is open to children age 1-6.

We operate a rock up and ride system. Children must bring their own balance bike, helmet (full face for group 2). We insist that children wear a well fitted helmet at all times, and have all skin covered. We strongly recommend wearing gloves, and covering elbows and knees with clothing or pads (pads and gloves essential for group 2). Parents are responsible for their children at all times during our sessions.
