Into the Wild is our walking group that goes to a different beauty spot each week. All safe, planned and guided. Distances up to 3km or just under 2miles. Occasionally more. Please check each week for accessibility needs. Not all routes are suitable for prams.
Parent Sanctuary walks help improve the health and wellbeing of both parents and children.
We’re an inclusive group that gives parents time in nature with peers, benefits include:
• Gentle exercise
• Aids in physical postpartum physical recovery
• Self-care
• Mindfulness/calming
• Release endorphins
• Increased local geography knowledge
• Calming for babies and children
• Generates curiosity and learning
• Improves fine and gross motor skills
• Builds language development
Whilst out on our walk we have our play prompt of the week which helps give you ideas for play and creativity with your little one.
We have training in perinatal mental health, carrying babies in slings/carriers, breastfeeding and safe sleep. We have our own children and experience of parenting through challenges, and share good sources of information to help you develop confidence, calm and joy in parenting.
Our activities are recognised by the council and local health organisations as beneficial for community.
Previous attendees have told us they gained friendships, had family days out in the same locations, that their children with additional needs have enjoyed the freedom of outdoors, and as a family they have become calmer, and been more confident to be outdoors with small babies and children. That they realised they weren’t the only one struggling and found hope to resolving issues.
We walk all over Kirklees and surrounding, meaning you will always find a walk local to you. We also have volunteering opportunities that could help you develop skills and more regular walks in your area.
