Activity Description

At TinyTalk we use well-known songs, nursery rhymes and stories to practise our signs, so it’s basically a fun way to learn to communicate with your little one before they can talk!  Imagine – your little baby being able to tell you when they want milk, need a new nappy or have heard a bird! We cover a new theme each week, learn some basic signs and do a different language based activity each week to help little ones develop the muscle tone and awareness to progress towards verbal communication as they get older.  We don’t run courses as such and we don’t repeat classes so you can start any time. Most people tend to stay with us until their circumstances change – go back to work etc.

Babies are physically capable of making signs from around 5/6 months (waving, clapping and pointing are all signs that your baby is ready to start communicating with their hands). However, we take babies from younger as, although it may seem like they spend much of the time gazing around, they are actually taking it all in and soaking up all that information ready for their bodies to catch up! We completely underestimate what babies are capable of understanding in the first months – they are so very clever, we are just giving them a tool to communicate that!   The classes are as much for families to learn the signs and to incorporate them into your daily routines at home too – it’s all about practise.

Our classes are a great way to spend quality time with your small people while hanging out with likeminded bigger people, and feeling connected to a social group of other families all sharing their experiences, tips, frustrations and milestones!  Our current families have seen first hand how lovely it is to still be part of a group, be able to take the pressure off for an hour in terms of entertaining your children, and to feel ‘among friends’ for a little while chatting with each other during the social time.
