The concept of the perfect family home is a tough one to define. Each person may have a
different expectation, and what may exist in fantasy may not be the reality. Added to this are
more practical constraints, such as budget and proximity to other family members or work.
So what do you need to look for in a family home?

Location, Location, Location

When it comes to choosing the right location, you need to ensure the home is close to
everything you need. This may include good school catchment areas and amenities, or links
to public transport for work purposes. Many people prefer peaceful, tranquil areas that are
full of greenery and parks. However, if you prefer city-living, this may not be as vital.
Personal reasons may also influence the location, and they are just as important as any other
factor. This may be the home's proximity to grandparents or other family. Start by listing your top priorities, then look for a few areas or districts and roads that tick as many boxes as possible.

The Home Itself

The home you can choose will be limited by your budget. The perfect one will also be
different for every family, due to its size and requirements. However, it is advised that you
consider what your family will become as opposed to what it is now. You may plan to have
more children or take care of elderly relatives in the future. All these play a part in finding the
ideal home itself.

Each person in the house (barring married couples) will need their own room. If this starts to
number more than four people, an additional bathroom is advised. As a family grows, so will
the need for storage. This can make garage and attic spaces essential.

Personal Considerations

When the right family home comes up, it pays to move fast. Traditional estate agent routes can take a long time. The average in the United Kingdom is now between 15 and 20 weeks. Yet cash buyers and those not in a chain can move much faster, and gain an advantage in a seller's market. Companies that advertise a ‘sell house fast’ service with cash offers are a good alternative. They can provide turnarounds in as little as 7 days, with no fees deducted from the final price.

Once you have this home, make sure you involve the family in as many decisions as possible.
This can help younger children manage the move. You may give them ownership when
decorating their room or choosing the furniture for it. Make sure not everything is new,
either. Taking items from the old home will make them feel connected and help them settle in
better.

When it comes to finding the family home, don’t rush. The right one will come along, and
you will probably know as soon as you set foot in the front door. Be well-prepared, do your
research and enjoy your life in your new home.
