Think you know this grisly fairytale? Think again!
Anyone fancy some cake? Oxford Opera is embarking on an adventure through enchanted forests and into a terrifying witch’s cottage – where if you’re not careful, you might become dinner yourself… In this one-day session Oxford Opera will explore the magical and bizarre world of Humperdinck’s opera ‘Hansel and Gretel’. The group will dive into the story of this classic folktale and devise some of their own scenes inspired by the drama, as well as learning some of the music and putting together a short showcase to perform to parents and friends at the end of the day. This is a perfect workshop for young people keen to sink their teeth (quite literally) into the world of opera – ‘Hansel and Gretel’ may appear sweet, but not all is as it seems.
This workshop will run from 10.00 – 16.30 [with our performance at 16.15], and we offer flexible drop off / pick up from 9.00 – 10.00, and 16.30 – 17.00. The workshop will take place at Cowley Road Methodist Church, and will be led by opera industry professionals. This workshop is suitable for 10 – 14s.
