Inspire a love of learning by exploring space with Learning Resources UK

Inspire a love of learning by exploring space with Learning Resources UK

Space is a great subject to inspire children’s curiosity and also encourage an interest in STEM learning because children are naturally curious about space. Few topics inspire feelings of awe in children – and grown-ups – quite like the vast unknown universe beyond Earth. And, from the wonders of stargazing for young astronomers to budding rocket propulsion engineers keen to learn how rockets work, there are so many areas of topics that will appeal to a wide range of interests.

At Learning Resources® we’ve been helping children love to learn for nearly 40 years and from starting children off on their astronomy learning journey with their first toy telescope, to helping them learn about circuits with our rocket toys, to sharing fun facts about Mars, we’re big fans of all things space-related.

Here are a few ways to spark your child’s curiosity about space, with our help:

  • Find a topic that interests your child. It could be that your child is keen on stargazing and investing in one of our toy telescopes made just for children is an ideal way of introducing your child to working with real scientific equipment while they discover more about the stars.
  • Set up your own planetarium. Turn your child’s bedroom into their own planetarium – with a little help from us! From our GeoSafari® Motorised Solar System to our Solar System Puzzle Globe, we have lots of ways to help you and your child create a space-themed environment.
  • Incorporate imaginative and creative play: Whether it’s making your child a jet pack using recycled fizzy drink bottles, to repurposing an old cardboard box to make a space helmet, to making stars by cutting shapes out of paper, you’ll find lots of ideas on Pinterest for space crafts that are ideal for doing in the classroom or at home.
  • Think about space-themed play in other ways: Our Circuit Explorer® range takes learning about electrical engineering off a circuit board and into a world of imaginative play. There are three sets in the range and young electrical engineers need to piece together a rocket, rover, and space base station before blasting off into imaginative play. Our Design & Drill® Bolt Buddies ® Rocket is perfect for little ones to build fine motor skills as they assemble and drill their own toy rocket, before blasting off into imaginative play.

Out of this World Space Adventures with Curiosity Box

Space Activities for KidsSpace is mind-blowingly awesome but what would it take to actually explore space? How would you get there and when you did, what would you see? and how could you explore moons and planets?

It’s time to get cosmically curious with the Cosmic Blast Off Curiosity Box and build your engineering skills while you’re at it! Linked to the primary science curriculum, but rooted in real world science, each Cosmic Blast Off Box includes the following 4 activities: Cosmic Crafty View, Lung Powered Launcher, Great Eggstronaut Challenge and Rocket Blast Off.

You can get a Cosmic Curiositots Box for 4-6 year olds or a Jumbo Box for 7-11 year olds. In every box you will receive collectable kit and information on Prof Lucy Rogers, our real-life space engineer (and Robot Wars judge – how cool is that!?).

Curiosity Boxes are all about thinking and doing like a scientist. This means our Curiositeers learn to explore and grow their own ideas, creativity and problem-solving skills, not just follow instructions.
