Many children look forward to bath time at the end of their day. Bath play gives children the chance to relax, unwind, and play. Plus, there are so many ways to learn while pouring, sploshing, and splashing! Try these ideas from Learning Resources® that help children learn while they get clean.
Smart Splash® Shape Shell Turtles are the fun water toys that teach ages 2+ about shapes and colours. These vibrant turtles have removable shells that include moon, star, cross, circle, square, rectangle, triangle, and oval shapes. The set comes with a handy mesh storage bag.
The Sand & Water Fine Motor Tool Set helps children aged 3+ practise fine motor skills through fun water play. When they squeeze, scoop, drop, and twist, they’re developing the fine motor skills they need to hold a pencil, tie a shoelace, fasten a button, and more.
The brightly-coloured Rainbow Fraction® Measuring Cups (Set Of 4) are a fun, 3D way to help preschoolers aged 3+ learn about fractions, volume, and capacity. This set includes whole, half, third and quarter. Each has a colourful base to help children visualise the fraction, and transparent sides so children can see inside when filling with water.
Preschoolers can dive into the wonders of water science with Splashology!™ Water Lab. Great for ages 4+, the child-friendly lab equipment gets kids experimenting and playing as they learn about volume, buoyancy, water flow, and bubble science.
The STEM – Sink or Float Activity Set is a fun set that lets children aged 5+ explore physical science concepts including buoyance, gravity, and density through sploshy, splashy hands-on water play. Because the set is designed for water play, it’s easy to clean and dry.

Bring your favourite coffee chain to bath time with the Bath Barista from Toomies. Just like grown-ups, little ones can experience the fun of the café for themselves. There’ll be hours of chat and fun in the bath as they brew their very own make-believe cappuccinos.
The fun starts at the top: on the left is a spinner they can set in motion simply by pouring water with the smiley-faced jug provided. Place a cup under the filter and give the yellow handle a twist to serve up a classic cup of Joe. Up top on the right is the handy foamer. Lift the lid, add in some bubble bath and water, then start pumping the yellow plunger to create oodles of frothy bubbles.
Turn the yellow dial and see the creamy foam form into the cup below. Add a finishing touch with the shaker: the colourful hundreds and thousands won’t escape, but water sprinkles will! Included are 3 cups and a jug and there’s a handy storage space on the left where they can all stack. The entire set fits easily to wall tiles, bath sides and any smooth surface thanks to suction pads at the back.

As parents, we want to encourage our children to think about the wider world and learn how to use their imagination to play. We may not realise that the bath is the ideal place to do this. Children can use their imagination to create an entire seascape, finding out more about the animals that call the water their home.
Another great activity for bath time is encouraging children to explore different textures and surfaces. Moluk is a brand that is helping parents to do this by creating a range of bath toys that take a slightly different approach to play. They include Oogi toys (which can be stuck onto various surfaces and used to pull or stretch) and their brushes and other items that can be used to see how things feel.
Whilst the primary function of bath time should always be to get clean, we know that you can do plenty of things to make it as fun as possible. Gone are the days when a bath toy could only be a rubber duck and a floating boat (although they are still great toys that have stood the test of time).
