Activity Description

Day 1> Let the Science Begin!
We start the camp off with a viral session designed to reinforce good hand hygiene during camps. Then this action-packed day investigates balance and strong muscles. Viral Viruses! – We start the week by washing our hands! We learn why hand hygiene is so important and investigate some gruesome germs. Knock Down Wrestler! – Discover relative stability between balancing and hanging objects. Make your own “unknockdownable” toy! Muscles! – Discover the types of muscles there are in our body. Make your own model of the muscles! The Fun Zone! – We end the day with a re-cap session with quizzes and challenges designed to reinforce the day’s learning.
Day 2> Floating Friction Fun!
We look at the properties of liquids and how boats float, then investigate some other surprising liquids as we make some slime. We discover how friction is used in our everyday lives and the surprising amount of science used in a game of football. Friction Sprinter! – Discover Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion as our scientists use friction and forces for experiments! Strong Boats! – Buoyancy – Create a boat and compete for the ‘Strongest Boat’! Super Slime! – Is it a solid or a liquid, or something else entirely? Football! – Discover some of the history of football as our scientists will conduct a football game!
Day 3> Energy and Aerodynamics!
Archery is a sport which uses a surprising amount of science. We see how good our aim is, then try some balancing skills and launch some aerodynamic rockets and see rocket fuel in action! Archery! – It’s all about the angles – use science to hit the bullseye! Balancing on a Pin Head! – Find your centre of gravity and make a balancing toy! Rocket 3,2,1, Blast Off- The science behind rocket propulsion; make your aerodynamic arrow! The Fun Zone! – We end the day with a re-cap session with quizzes and challenges designed to reinforce the day’s learning.
Day 4> Superhero Science!
After a science show presented by our Superhero Professors, we explore momentum and jet propulsion, then hone our throwing and catching skills in a game of Handball. Superhero Show! – Use science to give you superhero powers and beat the bad guys! Run Marble Run! – Learn about momentum & construct a marble run of your own! Wacky Races! – Build a rocket car and investigate Newton’s laws of motion. Handball! – Learn to play handball and the science behind it, before competing in friendly games with each other!
Day 5> Design, Inspire and Experiment!
We look at the science behind high and low temperatures and investigate different liquid densities and make a cool bubbling lava experiment. Then using the science knowledge we have gained during we camp we design and play a new sport or game! Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot! – The effect of temperature, take home a homemade thermometer! Lava Lamps! – Densities and fluids moving through a hand-made lava lamp! Sport Design! – Using all your scientific knowledge can you design a new sport or game? The Fun Zone! – We end the day with a re-cap session with quizzes and challenges designed to reinforce the day’s learning.
