Science Explorer
Every day at this 5-day camp is science expedition into the unknown and over the week your child will do 40+ science activities, exciting demonstrations, hands-on experiments, team games and fun quizzes. Every Day includes: 4 classroom-based fun, hands-on, science sessions and 3 ‘Activity Playground Breaks’
Day 1> Mystery & Mini Monsters!
We start the week with a virus awareness challenge, what are they, what do they do and most importantly how can we beat them?! We see the colours hidden inside colouring pens by using chromatography and discover techniques used to fight crime including fingerprints and forensics! Coughs and Sneezes! – We make a virus model and learn why coughs and sneezes spread diseases. Leaky Pens! – Investigate the science of chromatography and create an origami artwork! Who’ Dun’ it? Solve the crime using simple scientific forensic techniques! The Fun Zone! – We end the day with a re-cap session with quizzes and challenges designed to reinforce the day’s learning.
Day 2> Whole Wide World!
We launch into our solar system and get an understanding of just how big it really is! We study magnets and magnetic fields by building a compass and then challenge each other in a deep-sea fishing game. Pendulum of Fear- Things can’t swing forever, make a wave pendulum model! Super-Sized Space– Investigate the solar system and let’s make a glow-in-the-dark solar system mobile Show Me the Way- Discover magnetic fields and make a floating compass! Let’s Go Fishing- Discover magnetism with your own magnetic fishing rod.
Day 3> Wave Motion!
Explore the invisible world of wind, waves, and energy. We observe some fascinating Plasma Ball experiments, see the power of a swirling tornado storm, and construct a mini wave cannon. Plasma Ball!- Observe electrical conduction through fascinating experiments! Wild Wind!- Explore Thunderstorms and Tornadoes. Let’s make a fantastic wind indicator! Wave Motion!- Fire your wave cannon and make links to sound and light travel! The Fun Zone! – We end the day with a re-cap session with quizzes and challenges designed to reinforce the day’s learning
Day 4> Light and Lenses!
This day is packed full of reflecting, refracting, and changing the direction of light. As we construct periscopes, bug viewers, thaumatropes, and electrical circuits! Loopy Lenses! – Enter a micro-world and create a bug magnifier. Let’s Go to The Movies! – The world of animation: Thaumatropes, Zoetropes, Kinetropes, and more. Lighting it Up! – Learn about electricity and help bright sparks make circuits! Periscope Down! – Diffraction, Reflection and Light Rays- Make your own periscope!
Day 5> Elemental Magic!
We investigate some creepy crawly adaptations then learn about the invisible gases in our atmosphere and how they help plants grow, then we get mixing to turn two liquids into some super gooey slime. We end the day with a re-cap session with quizzes and challenges designed to reinforce the day’s learning. Butterflies and Mini Beasts – Camouflage your butterfly so it can hide from our hungry bird! How Does Your Garden Grow? – Look at greenhouse gases- Build your mini grass head with a greenhouse hat! Super Slime! – Discover the secret behind Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids while having slimy fun! The Fun Zone! – We end the day with a re-cap session with quizzes and challenges designed to reinforce the day’s learning.
