RECEPTION – YEAR 2*

*PLEASE NOTE: For children who are due to attend reception in September: We sometimes receive enquiries about 4-year-olds who have not yet started school and are due to begin Reception in September. While they may already be 4, our experience shows that children who haven’t yet been in a school setting can find the structure and pace challenging. For this reason, we recommend that children wait until they have started school before joining our workshops, unless they are exceptionally confident and have had some experience of structured child care away from parents such as nursery experience. If you’re unsure, please feel free to check with us.

Bristol Academy of Drama are delighted to be offering infant school children the opportunity to take an exciting and creative journey into the world of drama and performance by exploring and then sharing a short performance piece based on the wonderful story of Giraffe’s Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae.

The workshop offers younger children the opportunity to develop the building blocks of drama and performance. The children will explore the world of the story; develop characters, create soundscapes, form scenes and tell stories in order to build their creation into a performance which will be shared at the end of the day. This process is designed to develop creativity, build confidence and help with communication skills and teamwork. But more than that is designed for the children to have a really fun day and introduce them to the world of theatre performance.

Led by our experienced drama facilitators, the children will build their new theatrical world with the help of costumes and props as well as crafting to help bring our story to life. They will not only perform in the play but, throughout the creative process, learn to share ideas and work with others. Through speaking, listening and using imagination, children will build their understanding of how to dramatise a story and present a finished production for an audience of family and friends to enjoy.

✨ Expect:

Fun drama and improvisation games
Working together and making new friends
Exploring characters through drama and play
A final performance for family and friends
A joyful, inclusive atmosphere for all levels
Perfect for anyone who loves to perform, play, and imagine! Join us for a day of laughter and creativity — and see where our pantomime adventure takes us!

Due to limited spaces available, it is recommended that parents/guardians book early to avoid disappointment. Early bird and sibling discount available, simply email us at hello@bristolacademyofdrama for discount codes and booking information

All children will need to bring is their willingness to get stuck in, their imagination, comfy clothing and plenty of snacks and drink to keep their energy levels up.
