Spring Themed Science Activities In 2025

Published on 27th March 2025 by Club Hub Support

It’s starting to get warmer now, and with springtime in full effect, the plants are starting to bloom and it’s time to get the kids back outside and enjoying the sunshine. What better way to do this than to engage in spring themed science activities? Learn to cultivate your child’s scientific mind with these amazing and fun activities. Who knows, maybe you’ll learn some things along the way!

Seed Germination Experiment – Learning How Plants Grow

Seed Germination Experiment

This experiment can help kids learn and understand all about how plants grow, from how they sprout to how their roots develop. Use clear cups, cotton balls, and seeds like beans or peas to help kids understand and monitor the progress of the plant’s growth and can record their observations. This would not only help kids learn but also help them gain an interest in plants and the natural world.

Rain Gauge Building

Another great science-themed activity to do in spring would be creating your own rain gauge. This can not only teach kids about rainfall measurement, but it can also teach them about how the rate of precipitation affects the natural world. You can build this using a plastic bottle, allowing them to keep a rainfall chart and monitor the precipitation in spring in your local area.

Bug Hunt and Observation

Bug Hunt and Observation

Another great way to keep your curious young ones active and engaged is by going on a bug hunt. By providing them with a book to identify garden insects and bugs and a magnifying glass, you can teach them about the common species of animals inside your own backyard, allowing them to observe the bugs’ actions and habitats.

DIY Wind Chimes

DIY Wind Chimes

Let your children learn all about sound and the wind by allowing them to reuse materials around the house to make wind chimes. These are a great way to help children understand how the wind makes sound, and can even lead them to ask where the wind comes from.

Flower Anatomy Exploration

Another great experiment you could do is hold a flower dissecting lesson by collecting some flowers (or store-bought ones), and you can dissect them. This is an amazing opportunity to help children understand a flower’s life cycle and how more flowers are produced. This could also lead nicely into how a flower works and generates energy and oxygen via photosynthesis.

Colour-Changing Flowers

Colour Changing Flowers

Speaking of how a flower works, showcasing that flowers can absorb colour through their capillary action can be an amazing experiment to showcase that the kids and outside colouring can affect the colours of a flower. Place a vase with some water and food colouring inside it with some daisies or other flowers (white petals work best), and they can watch as the petals change colours!

Birdhouse Construction

Birdhouse Construction

Building Birdhouses is a great way to introduce topics like deforestation, sustainable practices, and birds’ habitats and migration patterns. DIY birdhouses allow a child to offer a bird a new home and give it a safe place to rest and live while it’s warm in the UK. You can also teach them about how birds navigate without a GPS or Satnav!

Weather Observations

A topic that is constantly talked about is how our weather patterns are changing, and you can use this to encourage your little ones to become a climatologist for a little while. Having your children observe the weather, monitor temperature, wind, and clouds, encourages kids to predict weather changes based on their findings. This is also a great chance to teach them about the water cycle and other natural weather-related phenomena.

Make a Sundial

Make a Sundial

Making a sundial is a great way to introduce your children to the concept that the sun moves through the time of day and how that can be used to tell certain pieces of information. To make this sundial, all you’d need is a sturdy paper plate or cardboard circle, a pencil, a compass, and a ruler. This will be a great way of keeping the kids entertained all while educating them at the same time.

We hope that this helps you keep your children entertained during the spring and keeps them curious about the world they live in. If you’re looking for fun activities for your children to start this year, then take a look at our kids’ activities directory and find exactly what you are looking for.
