Family Yoga for Autism Awareness – for children with additional needs and their families to enjoy yoga together’.
World Autism Awareness Week is internationally recognised from the 1st-7th April. Autism-friendly events and educational activities take place throughout April to increase understanding and acceptance and foster worldwide support.
Join us at Shadwell Studio for some family fun and creativity as we move through our yoga practice together.
This session is aimed at families who have children with additional needs (4-11 yrs), their guardians, parents, grandparents and siblings. No need to be super fit, just a willing spirit. Family yoga is an incredible way to de-stress and create that bond between family members … breathing laughing and connecting. So simple yet so very special.
During this session we will enjoy:
* exciting yoga activities to challenge everyone
* partner work to encourage teamwork
* breathing practices to calm the mind and body
* rejuvenating relaxations
* the enjoyment of learning together and spending time in each other’s company
Yoga is great for creating a feeling of calm and tranquillity, and can help adults and children to relax in each other’s presence. Yoga means union, a coming together, so perfect to experience this as a family unit and create that bonding time together.
Yoga for children with additional needs includes the classical yoga practices of movement, breathing, deep relaxation combined with sound, rhythm, massage and sensory integration techniques.
The benefits can include:
Improving motor control and motor planning skills
Developing physical strength, muscle tone and balance
Promoting flexibility and correcting postural misalignment
Establishing calm, organised mental states
Relieving respiratory ailments
Developing the ability to relax
Reducing fear, frustration and stress
Enriching the quality and quantity of sleep
