This class is intended to encourage learners to record their daily lives in a positive way while safely socialising with learners of their own age. Each class will include a range of activities, designed to stimulate creativity and to encourage self-expression and individual thought. We will explore different ways to create content for a journal, including scrap booking, digital planning, comic strips, and doodling.
Each class will begin with a prompt that is aimed to provoke reflective and creative thought, including: A piece of music, a painting or photograph, empowering quotes, puzzles and quizzes, stories, or poems. In addition, the following themes are explored each week:
> Week 1: Getting to Know Me, Making Friends – We will enhance and personalize the covers of our chosen journal or diary. This may be done with pens, crayons, stick on gems, ribbons, photographs, or any other media that reflects the style and personality of the learner.
> Week 2: Hobbies and Skills – We will reflect on what we are good at. We will think about how to set aspirational targets for growth. We will think about how we can record and celebrate our achievements in our journals.
> Week 3: Fashion and Style – We will examine our style influences, sharing our likes and dislikes. We look at how sketches, doodles and comic strip art can be used to express our individuality.
> Week 4: Media Influences – We will share the types of media that we like to watch, listen to, or read. We will think about how television, film and music impact our daily lives and social time. We will look at how we can record sound to make podcast journals.
> Week 5: In the News – This session will focus on important news events of the past week/month. We will review whether events have impacted our lives or spiked an interest in a new topic or hobby.
> Week 6: Inspirations and Dreams – This session will focus on where we want to be and what we want to achieve. We will look at how we can use digital planners to find and save resources and information that will help us on our journey to success.
There are many positive benefits associated with regular journaling and this class aims to help young learners better understand and process their emotions in a calm and reflective way. Journaling builds writing and communication skills in a positive, non-judgmental way, encouraging self-belief and resilience.
