At Fun Little Foodies, our main goal is to get kids involved in and interested in food and cooking. We focus on having fun, getting stuck in, tasting new food and flavours and exploring where our food comes from. Our recipes are nutritious and show the importance and simplicity of using fresh ingredients wherever possible. Our recipes use ‘healthy’ options where possible however, the importance of a balanced diet is always emphasised and therefore some recipes do also cater for the sweet lovers amongst our children! Children are encouraged to be as independent as possible and practice their listening and following instructions skills. However, due to the age of the children, parent/carer participation is expected when needed. The session will begin with an introduction to the ingredients and equipment we will be using for the class recipe. Songs are used to encourage participation and enhance learning. We then move on to the recipe creation! All recipes involve some pre-prepared ingredients and some which the children need to count/weigh/measure. We talk about and taste the food and use lots of language and numeracy skills in the process. While the dishes are being cooked, the children take part in a linked story and activity which is included in the price of the class. We then return to the cooking table to sample our delicious dishes! Any leftover food can then be taken home (please provide a suitable container) and your child will also take home a recipe card so they can recreate the dish at home.
